Growing Well Cucumber Pickle
Delicious Lakeland grown cucumbers brined with white wine vinegar, herbs and spices for a crunchy, tasty pickle that is fabulous with salads and cold meats, even added to a dirty martini.
Growing Well is a mental health charity, organic farm and training centre, based on the outskirts of Kendal in the south of Cumbria, as a business we have long supported them. When the pandemic hit we wanted to look at innovative ways in which we could collaborate and help them to use their products to gather a more commercial benefit, we commissioned them to grow and then pickle the range of three products for us, all items which we sell from other suppliers to sit alongside our Hawkshead Relish Pickles and Preserves which we handmake in Hawkshead.
Growing Well help the community with volunteers joining them on the farm, to help them through their mental health recovery and offer training, support and guidance throughout their journey. In 2021 they planted Beetroot, Shallots and Cucumbers for our range and when ready they peeled, processed, and jarred them on site, we were able to assist them with everything they needed for making them and purchased them at a commercial rate enabling them to create a good profit margin for the charity.
The result is a lovely range of locally grown pickles which have been developed with care and passion whilst helping the charity and all those who volunteer.
