Hawkshead Relish, Cumbria producers of artisan preserves are recognised at international level for their innovation in creating world class condiments.

The Damson & Basil Jelly is NEW to the distinctive range comprising of over 120 handmade preserves. Using locally gathered Lyth Valley Damsons which are peculiar only to the Lake District combined with fresh fragrant basil leaves this natural apple based condiment is totally unique and wowed the esteemed judging panel in the speciality category.

The ‘Fresh Idea' awards were designed to find the very best innovations in the food industry and incorporated entries from an international gathering of producers covering all food sectors at the IFE, UK's largest food industry exhibition.

Hawkshead Relish who is renowned for award winning preserves handmade in the Lake District is delighted to oversee the brand and a namesake shop in the North Yorkshire beauty spot.

Amanda Ackroyd opened Relish Skipton to the public on Friday 8th March and with a number of local dignitaries to add flare to the occasion. The premises located in the bustling towns centre Rope Walk hopes to attract the same calibre of foodie following as the famous Hawkshead Relish shop in Hawkshead village.
The original Hawkshead Relish shop located where the business was first cooked up in Hawkshead square is now an emporium to the extensive range of renowned award winning preserves. Amanda comments, "when I first came across Hawkshead Relish products and the wonderful shop I immediately knew this was what I wanted to recreate; my hometown of Skipton also provided the ideal location. Hawkshead Relish is not just about excellent products; it provides a truly culinary experience and a wonderful story at its heart that really inspires people'.


Hawkshead Relish co-owners Mark & Maria Whitehead also attended the opening. ‘We are over the moon to see a second Relish shop open its doors, I certainly hope the people of Skipton & visitors alike relish the addition to town!' exclaimed Maria.


Mark who is the inspiration behind the many award winning products used his culinary prowess to produce a preserve that would perfectly compliment a famous Skipton delicacy, 'the great pork pie making tradition which flourishes in the market town' naming it ‘Skipton Pork Pie Pickle', which will be exclusive only to Hawkshead Relish shops.

Hawkshead Relish is celebrating after it was announced they had become the outright winners of the North West’s Local Food Award.

The annual awards organised by the Countryside Alliance recognise and celebrate rural life, produce and communities. Nicknamed "The Rural Oscars" the awards are broad in scope, highly coveted and nominated by the public vote. 

“We are truly thrilled with this announcement”, commented Kate Nicholson, manager. “The news has delighted all the team here, given that we were nominated by the public. It takes into account the Hawkshead Relish shop, our wonderful produce as well as the business and our exceptional customer service; which has obviously rubbed off on our customers. It is credit to everyone here”.

The Countryside Alliance a leading voice of rural Britain, and the Awards complement the wide range of rural life and the communities. The national judging panel included Clarissa Dickson Wright the well known TV cook, Philip Johnston Assistant Editor to the Daily Telegraph's & Sir Barney White Spunner, writer & Countryside Alliance Executive Chairman .

Regional winners will now go forward to the grand final, at a gala evening at the House of Lords, Westminster in March, attended by Parliamentarians and media where the overall Champions will be declared.
